Good Bad Girl | Alice Feeney | Book Review

About The Book:

Author: Alice Feeney
Pages: 320
Genre: Mystery Thriller

Twenty years after a baby is stolen from a stroller, a woman is murdered in a care home. The two crimes are somehow linked, and a good bad girl may be the key to discovering the truth.

Edith may have been tricked into a nursing home, but at eighty-years-young, she’s planning her escape. Patience works there, cleaning messes and bonding with Edith, a kindred spirit. But Patience is lying to Edith about almost everything.

Edith’s own daughter, Clio, won’t speak to her. And someone new is about to knock on Clio’s door…and their intentions aren’t good.

With every reason to distrust each other, the women must solve a mystery with three suspects, two murders, and one victim. If they do, they might just find out what happened to the baby who disappeared, the mother who lost her, and the connections that bind them.

I got this review Copy from Pan Macmillan India. My review is my honest opinion.

“Good Bad Girl” is the first book I’ve read by Alice Feeney, and I’m really impressed with how she writes. The story starts with a baby getting taken from a stroller on Mother’s Day. Then, we jump ahead twenty years and meet Edith, a 80-year-old living in a care home, upset about being put there by her daughter, Clio. As we learn about their strained relationship, Edith befriends Patience, a caring worker at the home.

There’s also Frankie, a librarian at a prison, desperately searching for her runaway teenage daughter. The book cleverly weaves together the past and present, showing how these characters’ lives are connected through secrets, lies, and murder.

Even though some reviews say it’s not Alice Feeney’s best, I’m curious to check out her other books. The mystery in this one has good surprises and a final twist that wraps up the whole story.

What stands out is how well the characters are developed. Each one has a unique personality, with both good and bad sides. The ending is a mix of sadness and relief, and the book focuses more on the emotional side of things.

In a nutshell, “Good Bad Girl” is a captivating mix of mystery and emotions. It might not be Alice Feeney’s top work according to some, but I’m excited to explore more of her books.
